Presenter, Continuing Ed Workshop, “I’m Miserable Because of You”: Undoing the Blame Game

Rebecca’s workshop, “I’m Miserable Because of You”: Undoing the Blame Game is approved by four Minnesota boards for continuing education credits for licensure. It has been a very popular workshop and is currently open for registration for the Minneapolis event on April 12, 2018 at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West (see the CURRENT REGISTRATION tab on this website). The focus of this seminar is to provide inspiration, skills and techniques to instill profound change in clients by moving them out of resentment, blame and victim mentality to empowerment and personal responsibility. Though first designed as a continuing education seminar for mental health professionals, many people now are attending from all walks of life for personal growth. One recent attendee, Dr. James Breyer, licenced psychologist, wrote: “Rebecca presents with great heart, presence, creativity. She inspires, she teaches and she heals — at the same time she educates.”

Rebecca’s keynote address for the 2018 MnCA Annual Conference was titled, “Making a Difference: Moving Clients from Blame to Empowerment.” Rebecca’s multimedia presentation identified specific ways to empower clients to improve their lives. She led participants to recognize the huge impact and value that therapists can have on their clients’ journeys. Humor, art, discussion, poetry, music and storytelling made the presentation both entertaining and inspiring.

Presenter, MAMFT 2015 Fall Conference

Presenter at the 2015 MAMFT Fall Conference. Rebecca’s workshop was entitled, “Stop the Whining! Moving Clients from Blame to Empowerment” This presentation was an adaption of Rebecca’s full-day CEU course (above). This multi-media workshop included storytelling, demonstration, music, poetry, video, art and humor. Through various activities, “rewards” of playing the victim role were identified. The emphasis was to identify steps to become empowered by owning our choices and becoming conscious of the games we all play that keep us stuck.

Presenter at the 2009 MAMFT Fall Conference. Rebecca’s popular workshop was entitled, “After the Breakup: Who Can I Save Next?.” Whether a person chooses to leave a partner, or is the one left behind, a breakup transition can be extremely painful. Through discussion, activities & music, “rewards” of playing the victim/rescuer role were identified, in order to help individuals recognize their obsession with trying to save partners they perceive as in competent, wounded or abusive.

Provided training and motivation to unemployed career professionals. Helped participants to identify and overcome irrational thinking associated with job loss. Examined energy wasted on resentment, blame, over-personalization, perfectionism, approval seeking, and trying to change others. Discussed ways to empower creativity and avoid the pitfalls of fear and anxiety that often accompany unemployment and job seeking.

Rebecca was interviewed by Fox News anchor, Heidi Collins on the nine-o-clock evening news on October 13, 2010 to provide commentary on the rescue of the Chilean Miners. Questions about the miners possible struggles with PTSD and the effect that “good news” has on the nation were themes.

Provided training for Adult Mental Health Case Workers from ten Minnesota Counties. The regional meeting was hosted by Brown County Family Services and focused on techniques to deal with difficult clients and how to avoid compassion fatigue.

Rebecca was the featured speaker for the annual dinner meeting of members of the board and a large group of employees of Sioux Trails Mental Health Center. This center serves several southern Minnesota communities including North Mankato, New Ulm, St. Peter, Gaylord and Fairmont.

Presented “Communication: Building Better Relationships at Work and at Home”. Participants learned tools to improve communication, recognize personal triggers that create conflict and frustration, and identify steps to improve relationships. Keynote speaker for Mamapalooza located in the Mankato Arts & Historical District. The presentation, “Unshackle Your Soul” helped participants recognize and release their blocks to authentic living, including: toxic thinking, perfectionism, approval addiction, fear of conflict and trying to change others. Through inspirational stories, humor, and song, Rebecca discussed ways to set their creative soul free and begin living more abundantly.

Rebecca and Friends (seven piece band) headlined the MSU conference with “Celebrating Women Through Song”. This performance opened the events to a filled field house of conference participants in October of 2007. Additionally, Rebecca and her band performed an evening concert in the Student Union Ostrander Auditorium.
